HUAWEI has launched a new mid-range tablet named MatePad 12 X. This tablet features a 12-inch PaperMatte Display screen, claimed to be glare-free. Let’s start the Review HUAWEI Matepad 12 X. Regarding the speaker quality, it’s incredibly impressive, as expected from HUAWEI’s premium tablets. Its battery capacity is 10,100 mAh, which is relatively large for its class. Weighing around 500 grams, it’s considered quite lightweight. In terms of usage, this tablet includes PC-Level WPS Office, which offers many comprehensive features.
the detailed REVIEW of the HUAWEI MatePad 12 X!
After previously reviewing the MatePad Pro series, HUAWEI now launches its latest mid-range tablet at an affordable price. Despite its budget-friendly price, it offers some features similar to the MatePad Pro, its higher-end counterpart. These features will be discussed later. For now, let’s check the contents of the box.
Box Contents of MatePad 12 X:
- 1 unit of the MatePad 12 X tablet
- 1 unit 100W charger adapter (high charging speed)
- 1 unit USB Type-C cable
- Microfiber cloth (for cleaning the tablet)
- 1 set of documents
Additionally, during the promotional period from January 9 to January 23, 2025, the package includes a keyboard, stylus pen, and Bluetooth mouse.
Design:
This tablet offers a premium look and feels very solid when held. According to HUAWEI, its body is made of metal, giving it a sturdy feel. The back cover features Natural Mica Powder with an electrophoretic coating, giving it a shimmering effect and a smooth texture. There are two color variants: Greenery and White. With dimensions of 183 × 270 × 5.9 mm and weighing 559 grams, it’s relatively lightweight for a tablet. However, when combined with its keyboard and stylus, the weight increases to 896 grams, still under 1 kg. This is considered lightweight compared to most laptops on the market. HUAWEI claims this tablet is lighter than many others, even with its keyboard and stylus. The tablet is designed for horizontal screen usage rather than vertical.
Physical Features:
- Top Side: Magnetic holder for the stylus pen, two microphone holes, and volume buttons.
- Left Side: Power button and two speaker grills.
- Bottom Side: Empty, no features.
- Right Side: USB Type-C 3.1 port and two speaker grills.
In total, the tablet has four speaker grills (two on the left and two on the right). However, HUAWEI claims it features six speaker drivers with two tweeters and four woofers. Vocals sound clear, and the bass is solid. The sound is powerful for a tablet, but unfortunately, when the volume is maxed out, the body vibrates noticeably, which can be annoying.
Display:
The 12-inch IPS PaperMatte Display minimizes light reflections, differentiating it from glossy screens.
- Resolution: 2800 x 1840 pixels
- Aspect Ratio: 3:2
- Refresh Rate: Up to 144 Hz
- Brightness: Claimed to reach 1000 nits
Indoor testing showed brightness levels of 518 nits, while outdoor HDR brightness was around 956 nits—sufficient for outdoor use.
The display offers two color modes:
- Natural Mode: Nearly 100% sRGB color gamut.
- Vivid Mode: 91.6% sRGB coverage with a 94.6% DCI-P3 volume gamut.
Certifications include SGS Low Visual Fatigue Premium Performance 2.0, TÜV Rheinland Reflection-Free, Low Blue-Light, and Flicker-Free, ensuring eye comfort during extended use.
The display has thin, symmetrical bezels, with an 8 MP selfie camera at the top capable of recording 1080p videos at 30 FPS.
Rear Features:
The rear includes a 13 MP main camera that supports up to 4K recording at 30 FPS and 1080p at 60 FPS, along with a flash and microphone.
There’s also a magnetic pin connector for attaching the Ultra Light and Thin NearLink Keyboard. The keyboard’s back material is stain-resistant, making it easy to clean with the included microfiber cloth.
PC-Level WPS Office
The tablet comes with a dedicated PC-Level WPS Office application, exclusive to HUAWEI tablets in Indonesia. The app allows multiple office files to be opened simultaneously, such as two Excel files, two PowerPoint files, and two Word files. Switching between files is as simple as switching browser tabs.
The interface and features are similar to the laptop version, making it user-friendly.
GoPaint Application:
GoPaint is HUAWEI’s painting and drawing app, available for free and used by over 1.3 million people in 30 countries. Features include Fluid Brushes with adjustable water volume and over 100 brush types. It supports up to 8K canvas sizes with various textures, such as Golden Silk and Rice Paper. The app supports the HUAWEI M-Pencil Gen 3, which offers over 10,000 levels of pressure sensitivity for precise drawing.
